Challenge
Design a cover to relate to the book's overall themes of religion, good v.s. evil, and corruption, while still staying true to the time period it takes place in.
Solution
This cover was designed using a variety of elements related to the story and maintaining a dramatic, enticing appearance.
In this story the use of rings are used to differentiate the main characters: a rosary ring for the chaplain, and a ring of bone for the corrupt corporal. These rings are the focus of the cover, with the rosary ring surrounding the ring of bone, playing into the theme of good v.s. evil.
A dramatic directional background was chosen to lead the viewers to the rings. This background is also made of gunpowder and ash.
